OCALA — A quirky but historic landmark has been demolished in central Florida — a drive-through funeral home.
Rev. Leon Thomas wanted to add more parking spaces to his Westside Serenity Funeral Home more than 30 years ago, but the city wouldn’t let him. So Thomas found a large drive-through bank teller window and installed it on the side of the building. Now, mourners could view their dearly departed without ever leaving their cars.
The Ocala Star-Banner reports the funeral home used the deposit drawer to keep the register for visitors to sign.
