MIAMI — Hurricane Gonzalo churned over open Atlantic waters as a powerful Category 3 storm on Wednesday, keeping up its strength on a path expected to approach Bermuda, forecasters said.
Gonzalo had maximum sustained winds of 125 mph and its eye was centered about 660 miles south-southwest of Bermuda as it moved to the northwest at 13 mph, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center.
“Folks in Bermuda are going to need to start paying attention to this thing,” Dennis Feltgen, a National Hurricane Center meteorologist, said earlier.
