News - St Augustine Area & St Johns County
The owner of a 2001 silver Mercury sedan was as surprised as anyone else Sunday evening to find his car in his house. St. Johns County Sheriff's Office Traffic Unit responded to a call around 8:30 p.m. and found the car had been backed into the house, according to Deputy J.D. McGinnis. The rear half of the car was in the bedroom with its rear tires on a bed. Gerrit Peereboom, 22, 286 Cervantes Ave., said he had left the keys to the car outside the house. He told deputies he had no idea how the car ended up inside. The investigation is continuing. St. Johns County Fire Rescue spokesman Jeremy Robshaw said no one was injured, but because the house suffered structural damage, Fire Rescue was still at the scene late Sunday working on the site.
