News - St Augustine Area & St Johns County
A memorial was held Sunday for Brent Angyalfy, 22, of St. Augustine, who died on Dec. 20 in a scuba-diving accident off the St. Augustine shore. Hundreds of people attended the memorial, including about 200 who paddled out on surfboards and rafts or swam out about a quarter mile in Vilano Beach near 23rd Street. The group formed a large circle in the water, and Angyalfy's family went in the center and threw flowers into the ocean. Friends and family then shared stories about Angyalfy. There was also a service on Saturday at Craig Funeral Home and a fish fry at the St. Augustine Boating Club in Vilano Beach. Hundreds went to those memorials as well and said they wanted to show the family their love and support. Judy Angyalfy, Brent's mother, and other family members have said the outpouring from the community has been 'overwhelmingly comforting.' 'Many people have asked how we're holding up,' Judy Angyalfy said Sunday. 'The truth is, we were not holding up. We were being held up by the love and prayers from everyone.'
