News - St Augustine Area & St Johns County
A St. Johns County Sheriff's deputy and a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conversation Commission officer talk with a surfer Friday morning, just south of the St. Johns County pier after he paddled out to a North Atlantic right whale (pictured at right) to touch it, a violation of federal law that protects the endangered species. The surfer was given a warning but could have been given a fine of up to $5,000. Police ask those who witness wildlife violations to call FWC at (888) 404-3922.
